New Metropolis Strategy Session Coming Up in Detroit, Michigan, Postponed

The Detroit region is currently struggling with loss of population, transportation issues, segregation, urban sprawl, economic loss, and educational concerns. Using The New Metropolis films as a starting point for discussion, the Detroit community will be convening to develop a common resolution for these problems with stakeholders from across the region and state.

This is a strategy meeting on how to use the films for screening events that will take place in Fall 2011. The meeting on May 12th has been postponed until further notice. This meeting is the first strategy session in preparation for an event in September. John Powell of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at the Ohio State University will facilitate the event. This strategy meeting will be hosted by Metropolitan Organizing Strategies Enabling Strengths (MOSES) and the Michigan Suburbs Alliance and supported by Andrea Torrice of Torrice Productions and Robert West of Working Films.

At the meeting, participants will determine the role of local media, outline how various organizations will work together to accomplish shared goals, determine specific agreements with each attendee to outline their role in the community engagement roll out, and develop a communication and social networking strategy for pre-event organizing.

Seating is limited and you must register in advance for the event. To RSVP for the event, please email the event coordinator Karen Bolsen at
