Building Community Connections with 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania and Their Community Partners October 2010 Following the successful event Building Community Connections: A Film Screening and Civic Engagement Dialogue About Revitalizing Pittsburgh’s Core Communities held in May 2010, 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania received additional grant funding to continue holding screenings of The New Metropolis as part of ongoing community dialogues in the Pittsburgh region. In addition to the partners who helped sponsor the launch event that kicked off The New Metropolis Community Engagement Project, Building Community Connections is continuing to bring new community organizers and stakeholders to the process of finding grassroots regional solutions to the infrastructure and transit challenges facing Pittsburgh’s communities. Three screening events have been scheduled for this fall:
Screenings will be followed by panel discussions with local experts, elected officials, leaders from community organizations, and citizens. “We recognize that the similarities between the surrounding communities are much stronger than what differentiates them,” said Grant Erwin, the Regional Director for the Southwest PA - 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania. “Coordinating this dialogue helps to bring communities together to share their challenges and recognize opportunities that they can achieve by working together. With this we can forge new relationships between neighboring communities and the urban core.” For more information about the events, please visit 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania, Western Region. |
